A Brighter Future: How Light-as-a -Service is Revolutionising Retail

Equipping DIY Megastores with High Performance Light-as-a-Service

Light-as-a-Service is starting to revolutionise energy-efficient lighting solutions, and Signify is taking the lead in the Netherlands and Belgium as it recently equipped 120 large Maxeda DIY stores with state-of-the-art LED technologies through their innovative LaaS model.

Retailers seek optimally illuminated stores to enhance the visitor experience and present their assortment of products in the best possible way. The brightness of the shop and the products directly impact customer experience, influencing their behavior in terms of finding and selecting items. Additionally, retailers are motivated to implement energy-saving measures due to factors such as increasing and unpredictable energy costs, customer and employee demand for sustainability, and regulatory requirements for the retail sector to achieve energy savings in line with the Paris Agreement.

Signify’s Light-as-a-Service (LaaS) offers retailers the option to purchase light instead of lighting equipment. This proposition, initially introduced at Schiphol Airport in the early 2015s, is now available to other sectors, including retail. LaaS promises advanced lighting systems and services that provide high-quality illumination, significant energy savings, operational efficiency, and improved business outcomes.

Customers can also choose Circular Lighting, which involves equipment specially designed for reuse and recycling, further minimising negative environmental impacts. Signify collaborates with installers who contribute to various aspects, including installations and maintenance services. Additionally, key stakeholders such as financiers can benefit from Signify’s Lighting Capital solutions, which include asset-based financing and structured finance for large projects, in addition to the LaaS offering.
