Refurbishing outdated luminaires with Circular Light as a Service

ETAP Lighting International has refurbished the lighting system of the Hemelvaart Campus of the Sint-Paulus school in Waregem, West Flanders, with highly efficient luminaires.

A school faces many challenges. One of them is the infrastructure and its maintenance. Campus Hemelvaart in Waregem is part of the Sint-Paulus comprehensive school and is experiencing strong growth. Various expansions of buildings and classrooms in the past resulted in a fragmentation of types of luminaires. The oldest fixtures date back to the 60s, for which spare parts are no longer available. The school therefore wanted to renew their lighting installation with a modern and contemporary, energy efficient system which a nice light distribution to create the best learning environment for the teachers and pupils. In addition, to set the example, the school was on the look for a sustainable economic model in which the supplier would remain responsible for the systems produced and delivered.

ETAP initially carried out a lighting study, which resulted in a lighting plan that takes into account the various rooms, their use and the applicable standards for lighting in schools (EN 12464-1). The best solution proved to be a renovation in accordance with the refurbishment principle where the old housing, connection and ceiling remain unaffected, and the light source and optics are renewed with ETAP’S innovative LED+LENS technology.  ETAP offered it as a Circular Light a a Service solution, which guarantees a long service life and more comfort for teachers and pupils. Thanks to this agreement, the school is no longer responsible for maintenance, ETAP will take care of it for 20 years.
